Continuing a tradition that spans more than 25 years, Bexel served as primary broadcast equipment provider for the 2017 NBA All-Star Weekend by Turner Sports, NBA-TV, and NBA Entertainment. Bexel supplied a comprehensive equipment solution, installed a fiber infrastructure connecting the broadcast compound to the arenas, and provided on-site technical support for the weekend broadcasts, culminating in the NBA All-Star Game.

Not only did the Bexel equipment cover virtually every one of the company’s core strategies from specialty cameras to managed services, but Bexel provided their largest on-site team — with more than 20 Bexel engineering, operational, and logistical support personnel.

Fiber Solutions

To support the NBA All-Star Weekend, Bexel installed a 685-strand fiber backbone connecting the main broadcast compound with the Smoothie King Center and also provided and managed a robust, 16-channel IPTV system.

Specialty Cameras

The 2017 NBA All-Star Weekend included Bexel’s rental equipment provisions ranging from specialty cameras such slow-motion systems, and robotic cameras; RF audio systems including player and coach microphones; and a multi-camera flypack system for NBA-TV.

Custom Flypacks

The flypack, installed at the Ritz Hotel in New Orleans, enabled NBA TV’s coverage of player press conferences and interviews. A Bexel Live Production Unit (LPU), consisting of Sony HD-2500 cameras, a Grass Valley switcher, a Calrec audio console, Everts routers and

multiviewers, and EVS XT3 servers enabled coverage from the media availability area and two small sets. Bexel conceived the custom LPU to provide flexible configurations that can be scaled up or down to meet the client’s specific requirements or accommodate a particular physical space.
