The third quarter of 2013 is a particularly busy one for Bexel Washington, D. C., it vividly reflects the types of work this office specializes in. Broadcast news is, of course, an integral part of life in Washington, D.C., and Bexel is proud to count all of the major news networks, including ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, MSNBC, and CNN, as longstanding customers. On August 20, a new network joined the ranks with the launch of Al Jazeera America.

Bexel began supporting Al Jazeera with decks and terminal gear last year, as they started to expand operations in the U.S. and offered intensive coverage of the 2012 presidential elections. Now with Al Jazeera America‰'s new bureau ramping up, Bexel is working closely with them to meet their new requirements. Four cameras have already been delivered ‰- three Canon EOS C300's and one new Sony F55. Marcos Nieves, Bexel‰'s senior account executive in the District of Columbia office commented,

‰"Once Al Jazeera America goes live, we know they will have a period of rapidly expanding needs. We have a relationship with them where they know they can count on us to deliver anything they require at the last minute, whether it‰'s a deck rental, a camera package, or a wireless mic order.‰"

Recent events supported by the D.C. office include ‰"Heroes Remembered,‰" which was presented by the Department of Defense. This special ceremony observed the 60th Anniversary of the Korean War Armistice. The event featured a dedication by President Obama that was broadcast from the Korean War Veterans Memorial on the Armed Forces Network, tributes to veterans, recognition of United Nation allies, and formal remarks from senior government officials. Bexel‰'s D.C. office provided an extensive, two-way radio infrastructure during the weeks of set up and during the event. Bexel‰'s equipment and technical staff were essential elements needed for hundreds of Army staff and production personnel to communicate. The size of the event covered over a quarter of a mile on the National Mall in front of the Lincoln Memorial.

‰"Any event where the President and high ranking military personnel are in attendance requires a very high level of professionalism, detailed planning and logistics, due to security issues that come with having the Commander in Chief present,‰" noted Nieves.

Bexel provided, programmed and managed frequencies for over 100 two-way radios for this event.

‰"The Intercom systems we provided consisted of a turnkey solution, designed specifically for these types of large-scale events that allow us to move RF over fiber for long distances,‰" Nieves explained.

Four on-site engineers were on hand, including senior RF engineer Ted Marvin, to oversee the RF setup and the miles of fiber connecting the network truck to three press areas located in various places on the National Mall. ‰"'Heroes Remembered‰' was the type of event that exemplifies the D.C. market,‰" Nieves added. ‰"We were honored to be a part of such an important and historic occasion.‰" Bexel‰'s new D.C. hub has deep seeded roots in the Washington market. Originally founded in 1974 as Systems Wireless, the successful company was acquired by Bexel in 1998. Nieves started with Systems Wireless in 1991, and was happy to stay on when the company changed hands.

‰"We deal with great clients in a world class market, and I‰'m gratified to have supported broadcast events in the D.C. area for more than 20 years. Our new, central location allows us to work with key U.S. and international broadcasters and production companies who look to Bexel for technical assistance and rentals, as well as our expertise in camera production, RF infrastructure, and fiber solutions. There‰'s never a dull moment in D.C., but we especially look forward to the presidential election years in our office. The historic 2008 election was probably the busiest single period in our history. Our entire office was on-site and virtually all of our equipment was out of house. We‰'re already looking forward to 2016.‰"
