November 7, 2014 – U.S.A. - Bexel provided 12 Grass Valley LDX XtremeSpeed (XS) cameras for coverage of the American League postseason games on TBS. The new, high frame rate cameras were used to enhance Major League Baseball coverage of the Wild Card Game, the American League Division Series, and the American League Championship Series. Each 4 camera package was integrated with Grass Valley’s K2 Dyno replay system. The pairing enabled the ability to replay varying speeds from a single camera angle and capture six times slow-motion versus the three times slow-motion that had been used previously. The award-winning, ultra slow-motion Grass Valley cameras deliver instant time-to-air with no internal camera storage requirement and deliver flicker-free images in speeds up to 6X operation in 1080i and 720p. In addition to providing six times slow-motion replays, they provide the full functionality of a regular camera.

“The feedback on the LDX XS cameras has been very positive,” says Lee B. Estroff, vice president of Account Development for Bexel. “By providing a better quality picture at slower speeds, viewers can get a better look at the field and the players. These cameras also work exceptionally well at night during low level light games, which had always been a challenge for traditional slow-motion cameras.”

Bexel also provided 25 Litepanels Astra 1x1 Bi-Color LED panels for American League postseason play. The units were used to light all of the announcer booths, as well as the broadcaster’s dugout reporters. Litepanels’ new Astra LEDs offer a tunable Bi-Color output, allowing users to adjust color from daylight to tungsten as needed. The high CRI (Color Rendering Index) LEDs are also formulated to consistently deliver accurate color temperatures and visually pleasing color reproduction.

“The Astra fixtures were designed to perform in exactly these circumstances,” notes Estroff. “The Litepanels LEDs are light weight, easy to use, and offer a really bright light output. At Bexel, we strive to do more than put together a package that meets our clients’ requirements. Our goal is to exceed their expectations, and the Astra was a great fit for us.”
