March, 2015 - When 14 countries came together recently to compete in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, many lucky fans were able to watch live 4K broadcasts of the matches. Theater audiences in the host countries of Australia and New Zealand, as well as viewers in India, were able to watch 4K coverage of the International Cricket Council’s premier event. NEP Australia, the country’s leading provider of outsourced television production services, engaged Bexel to support their 4K broadcast effort. Bexel supplied four 4 Sony PMW-F55 CineAlta 4K Digital Cinema Cameras to expand NEP Australia’s existing inventory. In addition, they provided seven Sony BPU-4000 4K Base Band Processor Units and seven CA-4000 4K Live Fiber Adapters to outfit the entire suite of camera chains with Sony’s 4K Live system.

“This was a very exciting project for Bexel to be involved in,” says Julia Rodgers, Strategic Accounts Manager for Bexel. “While the transition to 4K production has been happening at a rapid pace, there have actually been very few live 4K broadcasts of major events. A total of seven events were broadcast in 4K, and everything went smoothly. As the leading global provider of 4K systems and support, we were proud to work with NEP Australia on these important broadcasts of the Cricket World Cup.”

Following the conclusion of the Cricket World Cup (Australia defeated New Zealand by 7 wickets!), Bexel is already looking to the future of 4K production. “We’re very excited to see the new 4K technology that Sony and others will be unveiling at NAB this year,” notes Rodgers. “Bexel will be continuing to advance our long-term 4K strategy in support of our clients around the globe.”[sc name="news-footer"]
