Each year, the Sports Video Group (SVG) Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame inducts a new class of elite individuals – from engineers to talent to technology – who have influenced and impacted sports television production. Bexel is proud to partner with the organization by providing both services and equipment for its annual induction ceremony, which draws over 350 senior sports television executives and their families.
“It’s an honor for us to be able to contribute and be a part of an event that often recognizes people who have had a direct impact on our own profession,” says Bexel’s Greg Bragg, VP of global sales. “We want this ceremony to be memorable for all the right reasons, so we take our role very seriously.”
The 2013 class was inducted in a ceremony hosted by NBC analyst Cris Collingsworth held at the New York Hilton, and included sports-broadcasting greats: former NBC and ESPN production executive Scotty Connal; CTV Outside Broadcast Managing Director Barry Johnstone; COO of NFL Films/SVP of NFL Broadcasting Howard Katz; ESPN EVP of Technology/CTO Chuck Pagano; YES Network Technical Manager Joe Schiavo; and the “Father of Sports Aerial Broadcasting” Mickey Wittman. NBC sportscaster Al Michaels accepted his honor via satellite feed from his home in Los Angeles.
Bexel handles the event production from pre-planning to strike. The company supplied a custom flypack for the ceremony that included a PA system for sound, two cameras, an EVS playback server, 52-inch monitors and a 5×10 screen for audience viewing, microphones, and an Autoscript Presidential Teleprompter for the ceremony’s participants.
“The production of the Hall of Fame induction ceremony must be of a caliber that these world-class individuals expect and deserve,” says Ken Kerschbaumer, executive director–Editorial of the Sports Video Group. “It is reassuring to know that the Hall of Fame can continue to rely on Bexel for their production support and technical expertise.”
